Nigeria's former presidents, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) were today, December 17 honoured by Bingham University, Nasarawa state.
The former leaders are being honoured by the University owned by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), as the institution marks its 10th year anniversary and convocation.
An elated Jonathan announced the information via his twitter page earlier today. See below:
Jonathan also used the opportunity to shower encomiums on his fellow awardee and former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd).
His words: ''Aged 33 he was a youth but his wisdom propelled him into bringing an end to the civil war with his wise 'No Victor No Vanquished' statement.
''As a military leader General Gowon used the rifle and bayonet as weapons of unity. Today he used the Holy Bible and 'Nigeria Prays' to unite us.
''General Yakubu Gowon is a person we all greatly esteem, admire and honour. He is the most senior among the former Heads of State in Nigeria.''
Jonathan was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Patience, who looked regal in her blue outfit with a gold matching head tie.
He called on all the graduating students of the institution to always display impeccable characters in whatever capacity they find themselves in future.
''You are not a complete or true graduate if you pass all your exams with distinctions but found wanting in character,'' he said.
