My views about NYSC, the past, present and the future

With rampant rate of youth corp members dieing prematurely in service of the nation, it is my suggestion that Government goes back to the drawing board and restructures the concept of NYSC. I know a lot of individuals have been calling for it to be scrapped, but been that there is currently a high rate of unemployment in the country it will therefore be unwise to increase the number.
I am of the opinion that NYSC should be restructured rather than make youths waste a year and endanger their lives, Government can rather increase the monthly allowance of youth Corp members and pay them in bulk to start a business and do something meaningful with their lives.
Instead of been employed for just a year of service and returning to spend the rest of your life unemployed and frustrated, at least this will help government reduce cost such as:

  • Cost of feeding during youth corp members stay at camp
  • Cost of production on uniforms for youth Corp members nationwide
  • Cost of paying facilitators at camp
  • And other miscellaneous cost that arise during the camping period.
In the end youths can gladly say their government has made their lives better and has given them an opportunity to make a difference in life, and most importantly it will curb the high rising rate of unemployment in the country.
