Man dies after ignoring warnings not to swim until new tattoo had stayed 2 weeks

Usually, people who get new tattoos are advised to wait for two weeks before going swimming and this is to avoid getting an infection, but a man failed to heed that warning and went ahead to swim, leading to his death.

The 31-year-old, whose name was not given, went swimming in the sea in the Gulf of Mexico only five days after getting a cross tattooed on his right calf.

Sadly, his action resulted in him suffering septic shock and an infection called cellulitis, ultimately resulting in his death.

After swimming, the deceased's tattoo area became infected with flesh-eating bacteria and he developed a fever and serious rash surrounding the tattoo area. Two days later, his condition deteriorated and he was taken to hospital. Doctors saw patches on his leg had turned a bruised purple color so they suspected he had the Vibrio vulnificus infection - which he was at a higher risk of due to suffering from a chronic liver disease.

The man was placed on a life support machine but his organs began to fail within 24 hours. He had a drinking habit which is believed to have already weakened his liver, thereby making him more vulnerable to infections. For a couple more weeks, his condition remained stable before he went into septic shock, and his kidneys failed completely. He died two months after his admission into hospital.

Nigerian Private jet owners reportedly spend about N30billion annually on maintainance

Nigeria's private jet owners now spend about N30 billion on maintenance annually, Nigeria has about 100 private jet owners. They were up to 200 before the economic recession started last year

A report by Leadership indicates that Nigeria's private jet owners now spend about N30 billion on maintenance annually.
According to the report, the number of owners of the luxury jets dropped from 200 to between 50 and 100, with most of them either selling out their private jets or returning them to their original owners abroad.
Before the present government came into power, it was estimated that Nigeria had about 200 private jets owned by individuals.
The number is said to have been halved to about 100 private jets, following cancellation of orders by potential owners before the new government came into office.

Confirming the cost of aircraft maintenance, the President of National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Engineer Isaac Balami, concurred that it is very expensive, as the issue of safety and engineering are paramount.
Balami said that even though modern aircraft has been able to take care of some of the maintenance by just software applications, the cost of maintaining an aircraft still remains a function of the type of the aircraft and the level of specifications certified by the aircraft maker.
Stating that the cost of maintaining an aircraft does not only end at “C” checks level, he added that there was also need for pre-flight, post flight and weekly inspections too, depending on whether the aircraft is Boeing, Airbus, Bombadier or Gulfstream.
“On average, I will say maintenance cost of private jet costs about $500,000 to $1 million US dollars (N30 billion naira) for a year, depending on the size of the aircraft. The reason is because it is the function of the age of the aircraft.
“The older the aircraft the costlier the cost of maintenance. You must also pay engineers monthly and other costs. All these are part of it,” he said.
Balami who rated Nigeria as the third highest private jet owning country pointed out that private jet ownership has reduced in recent times, while there still exist a couple of them.
His words: “Apart from America and China, Nigeria is the third in private jet ownership all over the world. From the last administration, we had over 200 private jets and so many other orders were made.
“It was growing up, although some people later cancelled their orders because of the recession, especially when everything is done in Dollars. France, UK and other advanced countries do not come near to Nigeria when it comes to private jet ownership”.

Some prominent Nigerians who are private jet owners include, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, Mr Femi Otedola, Pastor Ayo Orisetjafor, Otunba Mike Adenuga, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Folorunsho Alakija, Prophet TB Joshua amongst others.

Biafra sit at home protect allegedly cost Nigeria N6.2 Billion in business transactions

Major cities in South-East Nigeria closed down their business for a day on May 30th Business analysts said Nigeria lost the sum of N6.2 billion on that day.The group that initiated the sit-at-home, however said they are unfazed by the loss of money during the one day protest.

A survey allegedly conducted after the May 30 Biafra sit-at-home order in South-East Nigeria has revealed that Nigeria suffered a major loss of N6.2 billion on that day.
The sit-at-home order in south-east which was to mark the remembrance of fallen Biafran heroes recorded about 90% percent compliance in major cities and markets in the south-east.
Business community reportedly recorded an estimated loss of N6.2 billion in executed transactions as businesses and other revenue offices were shut.
The N6.2 billion, according to business analysts, is based on national data that Nigeria loses about N46 billion on each holiday it observes, and the regions which took part in the sit-at-home exercise, even as they contend, that the actual losses may be far more.
An Onitsha-based importer, Mr Peter Duruaku, said he lost much because the sit-home came a day after a national public holiday, Democracy Day.
Duruaku said: “I was expecting delivery of my goods on Monday, May 29, but the holiday made it impossible. Then Tuesday’s order came, with both days now compelling me to cough out N250,000 as demurrage and related charges to the ship and warehouse."
An ex-banker, Mr Johnson Durojaiye, quoting some statistics, said with the Nigerian business community suffering billions of naira in costs from each holiday observed in the country, even when the informal sector is alive on most holidays, a total shut down of both the formal and informal sectors, as was done on Tuesday is bound to cost the economy more than has been estimated.
He said: “In that regard, the volume of business transactions lost to the sit-at-home order in the affected regions, known for their business activities, can only be an issue for debate, but when National Office of Statistics comes out with the figure on the cost, many will be shocked."
According to Durojaiye, part of the ways of seeing Nigeria have robust economy is to strife to reduce the number of holidays and any occasion like the pro-Biafran group’s order that can make shutting down of all business houses possible.
The chief coordinator of the action committee on the programme, made up of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Mr Uchenna Madu, said those reeling out statistics on the losses caused by the action did not get the feelings of the people that the struggle was aimed at bettering their lives.
Madu said: “Those giving out statistics on the costs of the programme are not the ones that the success of our demands will favour, hence their subtle move to paint a picture of business transactions’ suffering huge losses to cause division. But so long as the message has been delivered to those who should hear it, we are satisfied."
He confirmed that apart from few banks and government offices that opened briefly for business, in states outside the south east, all other institutions including schools and all markets and shops were closed.

Dubai introduces World's first Robotic police/Cop

After bringing in Lamborghinis and Ferraris to patrol roads, Dubai police have enrolled a robotic officer, the first in a unit that aims to make up a quarter of the force by 2030.

The robotic cop stood to attention Wednesday night at the foot of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, as tourists and passersby snapped selfie souvenir photos by its side.

Wearing a police cap and moving on wheels, the robot features a computer touch-screen on its chest that can be used to report a crime or inquire about speeding tickets.

“Our aim is to raise the number of robots to 25 percent of the police force by 2030,” said Brigadier Khaled al-Razzooqi, head of Smart Services at Dubai police.

The robot, to be deployed mainly at tourist spots, is equipped with a camera that transmits live images to the operations room and it can identify suspects wanted by police.

The main purpose is to “find a new way to deal with people”, said Razzooqi, while acknowledging that robots could not replace humans on tasks such as making arrests.

Police in Dubai, a growing tourism hub which attracted nearly 15 million visitors last year, have previously attracted media attention by parading expensive luxury cars as patrol vehicles.
