CLERIC PROPHESIES THAT DANGOTE WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA

Amu, however, noted that he is not sure if the business mogul would succeed President Muhammadu Buhari or not.

A former Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop George Amu, has prophesised that billionaire, Alhaji Aliko Dangote will be Nigeria's President one day.

Amu said God showed him Dangote will surprisingly rise to that position, just like Donald Trump shockingly won the United States Presidential election.
The cleric was quoted to have disclosed this in Lagos over the weekend.
He said he had on August 21, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, told newsmen that Trump would win America’s election.
Amu said his prediction of Trump's victory was not published by any newspaper.
"I even told my children to circulate the information on their facebook but they declined. The same God, who revealed Donald Trump’s victory in the US, has also declared His intention to install Dangote as the future President of Nigeria," he said.

Amu, however, noted that he is not sure whether Dangote would succeed Buhari or not.
He said God wants to use Trump and Dangote, as successful businessmen, unlike politicians, to salvage their countries from problems.

OMOTOLA GIVES WORD OF ADVICE TO LADIES

At the recently held Africa International Film Festival in Lagos, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde shares the opinion that sharing faith with one's spouse and being disciplined are both key to a good marriage.
She says, "If you’re a Christian and you marry someone who is not born again then you are on your own. Your partner needs to be stronger than you. They are the ones getting the aftermath of your own action.
"Pick someone who sees your heart, your soul, someone who sees the real you and not afraid to tell you about your flaws.
"Discipline is key. Everyone wants freedom but too much freedom is bad. Be disciplined. It’s better to be an enemy to a work partner than to your family..."

NCC PUTS A HALT TO HIKE IN DATA TARIFF

Authorities of the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC has suspended its plan to increase data tariff on all telecommunication networks with effect from tomorrow December 1st. A statement by the commission says the suspension is to allow for further consultation by all stakeholders.

There has been a public outright since the commission announced plans to direct telecommunication networks to increase their data tariffs. Read the press statement by NCC, after the cut.

Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction.
The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country.
The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria.
Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016.
The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants.
The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB.
In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction.
The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators.
This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse.
Before the new suspended price floor of N0.90k/MB, the industry average for dominant operators including MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, EMTS Limited (Etisalat) and Airtel Nigeria Limited was N0.53k/MB.
Etisalat offered (N0.94k/MB), Airtel (N0.52k/MB), MTN (N0.45k/MB) and Globacom (N0.21k/MB).
The smaller operators/ new entrants charge the following: Smile Communications N0.84k/MB, Spectranet N0.58k/MB and NATCOMS (NTEL) N0.72k/MB.
The NCC as a responsive agency of government takes into consideration the feelings of the consumers and so decided to suspend the new price floor.

WORLD'S OLDEST PERSON CELEBRATES HER 117TH BIRTHDAY

Ms Emma Morano of Vercelli, Italy was born 117 years year ago on November 29, 1899. Guinness World Records confirmed her as the world's oldest person on May 16 this year, when she was 116 years and 169 days old. Her life has spanned three centuries, two World Wars and more than 90 Italian governments.

On Tuesday, Ms Morano celebrated her birthday in her flat, a home she hasn’t left for years and receives 24-hour care. According to her, the peculiar diet she began after World War I helped her become one of the oldest people ever. When she was a teenager, a doctor suggested that she eat raw eggs to combat her anemia. Morano followed a diet of two raw eggs, one cooked egg, a little minced meat and pasta for the past 90 years, but now limits herself to two eggs a day and a few biscuits.

Her physician, Dr Carlo Bava, has however credited her long life to her genetic make-up, and nothing else. "She is in a great state of health and mind. The fact that she has never had much variety in her diet is proof that she is so well-preserved thanks to genetics." Ms Morano's mother reached the age of 91 and she had several sisters who reached their centenary

PRESIDENT BUHARI ALLEGEDLY POSTPONES THE WEDDING OF HIS DUAGHTER ZAHRA BUHARI

President Buhari is reportedly having a second thought about his 21-year-old daughter, Zahra's wedding to billionaire Indimi.
The news of the wedding has been in the news recently following images of her expensive wedding gifts from her soon-to-be husband, and this didn't go down well with the president. Read according to Daily Correspondents below...
"The wedding ceremony of Zahra, daughter of Nigeria’s president Buhari to son of billionaire businessman, Mohammed Indimi, scheduled for December 4, 2016, has been put on hold indefinitely, Daily Correspondents can authoritatively reveal.
The postponement, Daily Correspondents learned, was on the insistence of President Muhammadu Buhari, who, according to a source close to the two families, was uncomfortable with the attention his daughter’s wedding has received in the media, particularly with news of customised wedding boxes as gifts to Zahra costing a whopping N44m.
An introduction ceremony between both families had earlier held at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Friday, November 18, but the wedding programme itself scheduled between Wednesday 30th November and Sunday 4th December, 2016, is supposed to be on a low-key celebration as the President desires it to be a simple and an intimate ceremony to be attended by only close family and friends.
“But the whole media attention has changed everything now and the President is not happy,” our source said.
Former President Ibrahim Babangida is believed to be a long time godfather of billionaire Mohammed Indimi, more so the former President was against the emergence of Buhari in 2015.
It is however “very unlikely that President Buhari may give his go ahead for the wedding in the near future,” our source concluded.

OBANIKORO RETURNS OVER A N100 MILLION TO EFCC

A former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Monday returned N30m to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This brings the total amount of money he has returned to the EFCC to N134m.

Obanikoro had in October returned N104m to the commission. The ex-minister, who returned to Nigeria last month after spending about 15 months in the United States, was accused of receiving N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

Obanikoro had said in his statement of oath at the EFCC that after receiving the money in 2014, he gave N1.219bn to the then governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, while N1.3bn was given to the PDP candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

He also confessed to giving Fayose a separate $5.377m at Spotless Hotel in Ekiti State in the presence of party leaders including the then PDP Secretary, Mr. Tope Aluko.

Obanikoro was said to have kept about N785m for himself, which he allegedly spent while campaigning ahead of the PDP governorship primary in Lagos State. Mr. Jimi Agbaje won the primary.

However, the EFCC asked Obanikoro to return about N584m out of which he had already returned N134m.

At the EFCC office on Monday, Obanikoro promised the detectives that he would return the remaining N450m in 2017.

The source said, “About N450m is remaining and Obanikoro has promised to pay the rest in 2017. He will also be reporting at our office every two weeks.”

At the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba last week, Mr. Alade Sunday, a manager at Zenith Bank, narrated how Obanikoro delivered about N1.219bn to Fayose’s aide, Abiodun Agbele, for onward transmission to his boss.

He had also said it took the cashiers about 10 days to count the money.

Sunday had said Obanikoro flew with the cash to Akure Airport and the money was loaded into bullion vans.

SENATE COMMITTEE PROPOSES TO BAN NIGERIANS FROM IMPORTING USED CARS

The Senate Committee on Privatisation has said it will propose a complete ban on the importation of used cars.

It, therefore, charged local automakers to manufacture affordable and energy-efficient cars for Nigerians so that when the ban was in place, the impact would not be felt.

It added that the automakers and marketers should have a flexible payment plan that stretches for about five years to enable low-income earners to buy.

The Chairman of the committee, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, disclosed this while on an oversight visit to the assembly plant of Volkswagen of Nigeria Automobile Limited in Lagos on Monday.

Murray-Bruce, who was accompanied by the Clerk to the committee, Sadiya Abdullahi, and an official of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mrs. Rabbi Yahaya, maintained that there should be at least one million made-in-Nigeria cars available on demand annually.

He said, “We want one million cars a year. Everybody who has a job should have a brand-new car. I will propose a ban on the importation of Tokunbo cars; but first, every Nigerian should be able to buy a brand new car in 10 seconds after we put up the ban, not ban and wait for two years.

“The car manufacturers should make provision for down payment of N250,000 and N30,000 monthly instalments. The vehicle should be fully insured for seven years.

“Another important thing is that the cars being sold in Nigeria are not energy efficient. You (VON) are a distributor for Nissan and the firm has the number one electric car in the world. The electric car should be sold here.”

Responding, the Managing Director, Volkswagen of Nigeria, Mr. Tokunbo Aromolaran, recalled that automakers had pledged to supply Nigerians brand-new cars at the prices they currently bought used cars.

He, however, noted that the automakers needed to establish volume, adding, “We were going to do it at such a scale that we will be able to sell the cars, but the issue was that we needed volume; if we don’t have volume, we cannot do it.”

On the flexible payment plan proposed by Murray-Bruce, the VON MD, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Automobile Manufacturers Association, said it was possible with the commitment and backing of banks and financial institutions.

FG PUTS THE GIRL CHILD MARRIAGE AGE AT 18

end the prevalence of child marriage especially in the North, the Federal Government has pegged marriage age for girls at 18.
Marrying off girls below the age will now be frowned at by the government, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said yesterday.
Osinbajo gave the directive yesterday at the launch of a strategy document and campaign by the government against child marriage in Abuja.
He blamed the increasing rate of child brides on poverty, saying there was an urgent need to tackle this issue.
He assured Nigerians that the government would take concrete steps to ensure the compulsory education of girls.
“There is a positive correlation between child marriage, poverty and Illiteracy. The states with the lowest level of illiteracy have the highest rate of child brides.
“Nigeria has made fairly poor progress in ending child marriage, 24 states out of the 36 states have passed the Child’s Right Act, but implementation is yet to be done fully,” he said.
The VP expressed regrets that there was no penalty for child marriage in the Constitution and urged the citizens to change their mindsets, especially as it concerns child marriage.
“We must persuade all Nigerians to stop this through advocacy and more campaign against it. States without provisions for girl-child education should consider this and also enroll girls who dropped out of school due to early marriage,” he said.
Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan said six million girls were married by the age of 15 in 2015, adding that child marriage is extremely prevalent in the northwest and northeast geo-political zones.
According to her, northern girls account for the highest rates of early marriage in the world with an estimated 65 per cent of children married off below the age of 18years.
“The detrimental consequences of child marriage on children, women, families, communities and nations at large are evident. There are always high maternal mortality and morbidity, illiteracy, lack of skills, unemployment, low income and wide spread misery among the victims of child marriage especially female victims,” she lamented.
United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator, who was represented at the launch in Abuja by Muhammed Malik, said 23 million Nigerian girls were married off before 18 years.
The UN, Canadian government and other leading health organisations, he assured, were supporting the policy.
“As United Nations (UN), we are proud to support Nigeria as the 16th country to move to end child marriage, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals that we have pledged to achieve by the year 2030,” he said.

Speaker of the Children’s Parliament Oralgrandour Nweke, who represented the Nigerians children, called for the prosecution of parents who give out their children in marriage before 18 and appealed to parents and the society to encourage children achieve great heights to enable them add value to the society.
