NIGERIA HAS MOVED UP TO 7TH PLACE IN FIFA AFRICA RANKINGS

Nigeria has moved up 10 spots to claim the 50th position with 616 points on the November edition of FIFA’s world rankings released on Thursday.
The team’s best placement so far since January this year also sees them tie with Burkina Faso on chart as the seventh best teams in Africa. Meanwhile Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria and Congo DR are the top six African teams respectively.
The monthly FIFA rankings are determined by a complex formula in which points are awarded based on results from FIFA-recognised international matches over the last four years.
Recent results and significant matches under the supervision of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr reflected on the progress of the team.
Last time out, Victor Moses scored twice and Mikel Obi added another when the Super Eagles defeated Algeria 3-1 in their Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match on November 12 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The 2016 ‘Team of the Year’ award will be given to the team that finishes top of the FIFA World Ranking, which will be announced on December 22.
Last year, Belgium surprisingly got the award for the first time in the 23-year history of the rankings.
Best Mover will also be awarded to the team that made the best progress on the rankings over the course of the year. Turkey won the award in 2015.
In 2000, Nigeria got awarded as ‘Mover of the Year’; the year the Super Eagles returned to the Cup of African Nations after a four-year break and finished as runners up to Cameroon.
