President Buhari-led federal government has slashed civil servants' salaries

The Federal government of Nigeria has reportedly drastically reduced the salaries of ALL civil servants in ministries, departments and paratatals for the month of November 2016, Leadership reports.

Even as prices of goods and services spike to the highest, Leadership reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Public Complaint Commission were shut down in November as a result of payment of half salaries in October but many others have joined in November.

It reports that some people were said to have received cuts as high as 50 per cent while others could not even determine how much had been deducted.

The document notifying workers of the salary slash at the eleventh-hour

A staff of Voice of Nigeria (VON) lamented that they only learnt of the salary cut when an internal memo dated Wednesday, November 30, 2016 was made available to them same day.

The memo addressed by the HOF to all staff, titled: ‘Reduction in November 2016 Salary’ stated that “We received the Payroll report for the Month of November 2016 from IPPIS and observed there is a drastic reduction in the Net Pay of Voice of Nigeria staff.”

Meanwhile, in the hope of getting Nigeria out of recession quickly, President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly proposed a N7.2trillion budget for 2017.

The president was said to have presented the proposed 2017 Appropriation Bill at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, November 30 during which it was approved.
