A MCDONALD’S manager who turned whistleblower over her bosses’ disregard for food hygiene has been awarded £45,000 for constructive dismissal and sex discrimination.Jasmine Trueman, 25, complained when superiors at the McDonalds in Douglas, Isle of Man, sold food unfit for human consumption after a freezer broke down.
She told a tribunal the restaurant remained open for 17 hours and served potentially unsafe food to thousands of customers.
The report stated: “Such was the severity of the problems in this period with the freezer situation that food offered to the public should have been discarded.
“If the problem temperature could not be fixed, the claimant explained that the store should have been closed. Temperature checks are fundamental to food and hygiene safety.”
She also explained how on one occasion she had suffered cramps during pregnancy and asked one boss if she could leave to attend a hospital appointment but he refused permission.
