North Korea gives the US conditions on which they will end nuclear tests

North Korea has finally agreed to give up its nuclear programme but with a condition that the United States and its allies should stop blackmailing it.

It also demanded that the U.S. suspend its war drills with its allies in the Korean Peninsula.

The country’s official Korean Central News Agency took the oft-repeated stance on Saturday as it reviewed the country’s major nuclear weapons and missile tests this year.

North Korea conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date in September and launched three different intercontinental ballistic missiles into the sea in July and November.

These tests raised fears that the country is closer than ever to gaining a nuclear arsenal that could viably target the United States.

KCNA said North Korea’s “entity as an invincible power can neither be undermined nor be stamped out.”

Presidency attempts to explain why there are dead people on the appointment list into agencies

‘Why we appointed dead people into agencies’--presidency

The Nigerian presidency says there’s nothing “scandalous or extraordinary” about the inclusion of the names of dead persons in a list of board and parastatal appointments.
On Friday, December 29, 2017 the Muhammadu Buhari presidency announced the appointment of 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members into a slew of agencies.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, made the list public.
The names of persons who have since passed on, popped up on the list, to the dismay and outrage of millions of Nigerians.
However, the presidency says Nigerians should cut it some slack because the list was compiled in 2015 and revised in 2016.

'Historical list'

According to presidency spokesperson Garba Shehu; “This list is a historical list. It dates back to 2015. The President asked all state chapters of the APC to forward 50 names for appointments to the SGF through the national headquarters of the party.
“The then SGF, Babachir Lawal, presented the report in October 2016, one year after he was commissioned”.

Shehu added that State governors kicked against the initial list submitted by Lawal, forcing a review.
“The report was disputed by state governors who said they were not carried along or the list was not representative enough.
“So, the President constituted a new panel chaired by the Vice President. The panel has some governors and some leaders of the party as members. They were asked to go and review the list.
“The president’s trips for medical attention slowed down completion of the process,” Shehu said, adding that Buhari decided to revisit the matter recently.
“The current SGF was only directed to complete that process by releasing the list which he apparently did without altering it,” Shehu said.
Shehu added that "there is no scandal" with respect to the list.  He said 'dead persons' in the list would be replaced.
“No human undertaking can be free of mistakes", said the president's spokesperson.

Media mogul and business woman Biola Alabi clears the air says she is not eying Osinbajo's job

Biola Alabi is currently not eyeing VP Osinbajo's job

Media mogul, Biola Alabi, has hinted that she is currently not eyeing the job of incumbent Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Alabi's reaction is coming following a poster with her picture as the running mate to Fela Durotoye ahead of the 2019 elections.
In a statement, Biola pointed out that while the prospect is humbling, it is false for she currently abhors no such aspiration.
In her words: "With regards to the election poster being circulated, and the significant attention and feedback it has garnered since yesterday, I wish to say that while such a prospect is quite humbling, it is NOT true.

"I hereby state categorically, that neither I nor my organization, is in any way affiliated nor responsible for the conception, design and circulation of said poster."
Alabi however noted her gratitude to individuals and associates that offered support and counseling after the poster went viral.
"However, I am truly grateful to everyone who has reached out to me one way or another, offering counsel and pledging support for such a cause, although fictitious. I am indeed honoured by your faith and believe that somehow I could run for the highest office in Nigeria.
"What this confirms to me is there is indeed a strong clamour for young people in leadership, and there is already a significant portion of Nigeria’s electorate hopeful for this outcome. This should not go unnoticed.
"I do believe that young, qualified and credible Nigerians deserve a chance at leadership, and this is a dream that I look forward to witnessing in my lifetime. I remain committed to leveraging my platforms and network to support democracy, good governance and the progress of our great country Nigeria," she said.

Checkout Robert Mugabe's robust retirement package awarded to him by current president

Mugabe will also be entitled to at least 20 staffers including six personal security guards, all paid for from state coffers, according to details of the benefits published in The Herald newspaper

The 93-year-old, who quit last month under popular pressure following a military takeover, is the first beneficiary of the generous measures unveiled Wednesday by new President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

No monetary details were spelt out, but the country’s constitution stipulates that an ex-president is entitled to a pension equivalent to the salary of a sitting president.

Local independent media reported last month that Mugabe was granted a $10-million (8.3-million euro) retirement bonus as part of a deal to persuade him to eventually resign. The government denied the claims.

As part of the new package, Mugabe will have three cars a Mercedes Benz S500 Series or an equivalent class of sedan, an all-terrain station wagon and a pickup van  which will be replaced every five years.

The government will also pay for fuel.

Mugabe and his wife will be entitled to diplomatic passports. The couple can go on four first-class air or train trips within Zimbabwe and four trips abroad on a private plane.

Mugabe will also be awarded a fully-furnished official residence anywhere in the capital Harare, in addition to bills and entertainment allowances.

Health insurance for the former leader, his spouse and dependants is also included in the raft of benefits.

Apple apologizes for slowing down the battery of older iPhones

Tim Cook

Apple apologized for slowing down iPhones with older batteries without disclosing the practice to customers until last week.
In a public letter, the company said, "We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize."
Apple said it will cut the price for iPhone battery replacements, from $79 to $29 for customers with an iPhone 6 or newer model starting in January 2018. The company also said it will update iOS in early 2017 with a new feature that lets users get a reading of their battery's health and decide if they need to replace it. Replacing an iPhone's battery with a fresh one should keep it running at normal speed.
The apology letter goes on to describe how lithium-ion battery technology works. In general, lithium-ion batteries used in smartphones like the iPhone degrade over time. This is caused by a variety of factors like extreme temperatures and numerous charging cycles. Eventually, the batteries can't hold as much charge as they did when they were brand new.
Apple's letter says the company decided last year to manage how much power the iPhone draws from older batteries in order to prevent unexpected shutdowns. But the public didn't find out about it until some iPhone owners used an app called Geekbench to test the speed of their iPhones. Geekbench wrote a blog post about the issue, and Apple admitted it was intentionally slowing down some iPhones with older batteries a few days later.

UK govt pleads with Prince Harry & his Fiancée not to invite the Obama's to their wedding

Prince Harry and his American fiancée Meghan Markle reportedly want to invite former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama to their wedding in May, but government officials in the United Kingdom are worried such a move could anger the current U.S. president.

A report released on Christmas Day by The Sun claims that the 33-year-old royal and his wife-to-be hope to invite the Obamas, but not the current White House inhabitants.

“Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness,” a senior government official told The Sun, according to the report. “Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a Royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen.”

The wedding will not be subject to the full regulations of a state wedding, but the government will play a “consultative role” and could put significant pressure on Buckingham Palace which is controlling the guest list  to keep the Obamas off the guest list if they fear it could have damaging impacts to international relations between the two countries.

I taught I was 74 until I was informed that I am 75 says President Buhari

Buhari spoke when the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammed Bello, led a delegation to pay him Christmas homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President, joined by state governors and other top government officials, celebrated his 75th birthday penultimate Sunday. He was said to have been born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, present day Katsina State.

While thanking his guests for the visit, Buhari recalled the health challenge that kept him away from the country for months earlier in the year and admitted that 2017 had been a tumultuous year for him.

The President said he had recovered well from the sickness because he obeyed his doctors who instructed him to be eating and sleeping well.

He said, “I am very grateful (to you) for taking time out on a very important day to come out and spend it with us.

“It has been a tumultuous year. I am thinking I am 75. I thought I was 74 but I was told I was 75.

“I have never been so sick, not even during the 30-month civil war that I was stumbling under farm of yams or cassava.

“But this sickness…I don’t know, but I came out better. All those who saw me before said I look much better when I came back.

“But I have explained it to the public that as a General, I used to give orders. But now, I take orders. The doctors told me to feed my stomach and sleep for longer hours. That is why I am looking much better.”

Trump insults Nigerians says we need to stop leaving our huts to come to America

Trump

Going by a special report yesterday by the authoritative New York Times on the style of the American leader.

The newspaper, in the report on Trump’s harsh immigration policy, described how he denigrated Nigerians at a meeting with his officials at a meeting in June.

The meeting had been called to discuss the immigration policy which he had introduced to stop travellers from several Muslim countries from entering the United States in a dramatic demonstration of how he would deliver on his campaign promise to fortify the nation’s borders.

The policy was later voided by the court.

Trump was said to have hit the roof after he was handed a list of foreigners who had been granted visas to enter the U.S. in 2017.

Forty thousand of such were Nigerians.

A fuming Trump, according to officials present at the meeting, said once they had seen the US they would never “go back to their huts” in Africa.

He also had unkind words for Haitians who had sent 15,000 people.

They “all have AIDS,” he reportedly grumbled.

He branded Afghanistan, which had 2,500 of its citizens getting US visa, a terrorist haven.

The NYT said: “As the meeting continued, John F. Kelly, then the secretary of homeland security, and Rex W. Tillerson, the secretary of state, tried to interject, explaining that many were short-term travellers making one-time visits. But as the president continued, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Miller turned their ire on Mr. Tillerson, blaming him for the influx of foreigners and prompting the secretary of state to throw up his arms in frustration. If he was so bad at his job, maybe he should stop issuing visas altogether, Mr. Tillerson fired back.

“Tempers flared and Mr. Kelly asked that the room be cleared of staff members. But even after the door to the Oval Office was closed, aides could still hear the president berating his most senior advisers.”

The White House swiftly responded to the publication yesterday, saying Trump had not used such language although it did not dispute the thrust of the conversation in question.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said : “General Kelly, General McMaster, Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Nielsen and all other senior staff actually in the meeting deny these outrageous claims. It’s both sad and telling The New York Times would print the lies of their anonymous ‘sources’ anyway.”

Sadiq Daba denies reports of being mis-diagnosed by doctors in Nigeria

The actor who is currently receiving treatment for Prostate Cancer and Leukemia, through an instagram post, told his lead campaign manager, Dr Joe Odumakin that one of the panelists made this assertion during the interview and it upset him. He said the Nigerian Doctors who treated him took great care of him and without their referral, he wouldn’t be in the UK getting further treatment.
Sadiq Wrote
‘This was today at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham Road; went to see Dr.Van as, the Ontologist. I will tomorrow go to see Dr. Christopher Ogden, of London Urologists Associates, Devonshire Street, for my first in plant injection. I got a call this morning from my son about a certain interview on Channels Television about me and the assertion by one of the panelist that I was mis- diagnosed in Nigeria!! This is very far from the truth and it got me really, really up set. Nobody has spoken to me, so, where are they getting all that rubbish from? This is no way to help my situation, not by vilifying the same people who did all in their power to help me during my hour of need; it might interest those carrying this fake news, don’t know is that without a referral from the Doctors in Nigeria, nothing could have been done for me; all treatment given to me was based on the report I brought over from the Doctors in Lagos!
He further said ‘Please, please help me correct this wrong and very dangerous impression being carried out by certain people over there in Nigeria, none of which is correct. Over 4 million Nigerians become jobless in 2017 according to National Bureau of Statistics

The bureau in the report, made available on Friday, stated that the number of Nigerians that became unemployed rose from 11.92 million in the first quarter of this year to 13.58 million and 15.99 million in the second and third quarters respectively.

It said between the second quarter and third quarter, the number of economically active or working age population (15 – 64 years of age) increased from 110.3 million to 111.1 million.

The NBS report said the increasing unemployment and underemployment rates imply that although Nigeria’s economy is officially out of recession, domestic labor market is still fragile and economic growths in the past two quarters in 2017 have not been strong enough to provide employment in Nigeria’s domestic labor market.

It read in part, “The labor force population increased from 83.9 million in Q2 2017 to 85.1 million in Q3 2017. The total number of people in full-time employment (at least 40 hours a week) declined from 52.7 million in Q2 2017 to 51.1 million in Q3 2017.

“The unemployment rate increased from 14.2 per cent in Q4 2016 to 16.2 percent in Q2 2017 and 18.8 percent in Q3 2017.

“The number of people within the labor force who are unemployed or underemployed increased from 13.6 million and 17.7 million respectively in Q2 2017, to 15.9 million and 18.0 million in Q3 2017.

“Total unemployment and underemployment combined increased from 37.2 percent in the previous quarter to 40 percent in Q3 2017.”

It said during the third quarter of this year, 21.2 percent of women within the labor force that were between the ages of 15 years and 64 years and willing, able, and actively seeking work were unemployed, compared with 16.5 percent of men within the same period.

Fuel pump price hits an alarming N250 per litre as scarcity continues

Petrol pump price hits N250 per litre

The supply and price of Petrol in Anambra have worsened as customers now pay between N250 and N300 per litre in the state.
Most filling stations in Awka and its environs had the product but refused to dispense.
However, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) monitoring and enforcing the situation, compelled marketers to sell the product at the government regulated price if N145 per litre
The team, which came from Enugu Office, also sealed 12 filling stations, including an NNPC mega station for hoarding the product.
The team, led by Mr Daniel Atama, however, met stiff resistance at Stanel Service Station which set its meter at N145 but was not dispensing, in spite of the long queues of motorists who had waited for over 24 hours.
The DPR efforts to get the owners of the station to sell proved abortive as the manager said he would only sell at whenever he wished and would not take orders from DPR.
Atama subsequently placed a seal order on the station for hoarding the products but an official of the station pulled the seal off immediately and threw it away right before the DPR team.
The DPR agents, however, left the station to avoid a brewing crisis.
But reacting to the development, Mr Chris Orage, General Manager of the station said he did not remove the seal placed by the DPR.
Orage said the station had limited products and was trying to manage the queue.
He denied defying the DPR orders because the station enjoyed support from some highly placed people in Anambra government.
At an NNPC mega station, the entrance was closed while motorists waited patiently for them to start dispensing.
The DPR, however, entered the station and demanded that the underground tank be dipped to check if the product was available.
The DPR sealed the station when the attendants refused to obey the instruction after which the manager was called on phone and directed that the officials be allowed to check if the product was available.
However, it was discovered that about N12,000 litres of petrol was available and DPR also ordered instant dispensing of the product.
One of the motorists at the mega station, Mr innocent Uzor, said they were patiently waiting because the station usually sold at night.
“We are here because we know they have fuel and they sell at N145, they usually sell at night.
“We thank the DPR for this enforcement, these marketers just make us suffer, may be because it is Christmas,” he said.
