Man gets 9 months jail sentence for insulting the Katsina State Governor

Gambo Saeed who was arraigned in Kastina State magistrate court by Police Prosecutor, Insp. Isa Liti, following a complaint  from Mr Mansur Ali Mashi,  the Senior Special Assistant (SSA), to Kastina State Governor, Aminu Masari, on Radio Monitoring, has been handed down a 9-months jail sentence.




Gambo who was prosecuted in court for intentional insult, defamation of the
governor’s character and inciting disturbance, bagged the 9-months jail sentence without an option of fine. The charges were in accordance with sections 399, 392 and 114 of the Penal Code. .


“Mashi said the accused person abused Masari and called him names on social media. He said the accused person posted on the media that it was Gov. Masari who influenced the impeachment of Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Muduru" his prosecutor said.

Delivering the judgment on Monday in Katsina, Chief Magistrate Abdu Ladan, said the court has found the accused person who allegedly confessed to committing the crime, guilty of the said offences; each charge attracts three years imprisonment guilty of the said offences; each charge attracts three years imprisonment.
